Developmental Reading – to teach developmental reading, college reading and academic success skills and critical reading courses to predominantly first-year students at the Union campus. The successful candidate will be committed to and enthusiastic about contributing to the General Education (GE) program and supporting first-year students by teaching developmental and GE foundation courses housed in the School of General Studies. The faculty may develop and take a lead role in supporting a new First-Year Seminar course that has a strong critical reading component.

Qualifications: Doctorate degree and experience teaching developmental reading and/or critical reading courses at the undergraduate level is required; a Doctorate with a concentration in Reading or Literacy is strongly preferred. The ability to work collaboratively with various constituencies across campus (such as tutoring services or faculty in other departments) is essential. ABD candidates will be considered with completion date by September 1, 2021.

This is a ten-month, full-time, tenure-track assignment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective for the Fall 2021 semester. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Courses may be taught at the Union campus, Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands or other locations.

All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an on-going program of research and publication or creative and performance activity. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement and service at the departmental/school, college, university and community level is also required. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. Proficiency in the Learning Management System, Blackboard and Online Learning Pedagogy is required, consistent with University guidelines. Kean may offer free voluntary Blackboard workshops to otherwise qualified applicants.
