Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL) – to teach a variety of graduate courses in TESOL focusing on culture and communication, grammar and phonology and language assessment. Additional assignments will include advising graduate students in TESOL certificate and MA Programs; mentoring alternate route TESOL teacher candidates in the completion of edTPA portfolios for certification; writing annual assessment reports for internal monitoring; developing programs; updating the curriculum; designing program outcomes that include the use of technology to enhance language education; participating in accreditation program reviews; and maintaining a research agenda focusing broadly on TESOL teaching and learning.

Qualifications: Doctorate degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. Successful candidates will have a record of teaching English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL); expertise in TESOL related pedagogy and methods; experience instructing graduate students through multiple modalities such as online and hybrid teaching and F2F learning; and the ability to prepare language educators to teach in ESOL and EFL settings. Knowledge of and experience with TESOL, WIDA, ACTFL and CAEP standards and accreditation desirable. In addition, candidates should have evidence of successful teaching experience at the college level (e.g. course evaluations, teaching portfolio); a clear research agenda; and experience with program development.

This is a ten-month, full-time, tenure-track assignment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective for the Fall 2021 semester. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Courses may be taught at the Union campus, Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands or other locations.

All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an on-going program of research and publication or creative and performance activity. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement and service at the departmental/school, college, university and community level is also required. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. Proficiency in the Learning Management System, Blackboard and Online Learning Pedagogy is required, consistent with University guidelines. Kean may offer free voluntary Blackboard workshops to otherwise qualified applicants.
