The University of South Carolina Union invites applications for the
position of Assistant Professor of African-American Studies. This
full-time position is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment
beginning August 16, 2021. Teaching requirements include distance
education, possible evening classes, and will normally require the
teaching of twelve credit hours per semester or its equivalent with
the opportunity for course release while seeking tenure and
promotion. Applicants are also expected to have a commitment to
scholarship and university/community service. The Campus has a
strong interest in ensuring that all candidates hired for faculty

As a campus of Palmetto College of the University of South Carolina, USC Union offers the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees. Faculty members may teach courses for Bachelor's degree programs in Organizational Leadership and Liberal Studies, as well as other programs within Palmetto College. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in African-American Studies and in his/her area(s) of expertise, as required.
A doctoral degree in African-American Studies or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment (ABDs considered). The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, scholarship, and community engagement. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, a commitment to collegiality, and a dedication to undergraduate education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching at the university level and candidates who can be approved to teach related fields.
