About the Department

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four departments in the College of Health Sciences, and the Food Science and Nutrition ( FSN ) program is one of four undergraduate programs in the department. Both the undergraduate Didactic Program in Dietetics ( DPD ) and the MS in Dietetics programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics ( ACEND ). The department and FSN programs are housed in the historic three-story Margaret Lea Houston Building. The program occupies the second floor, which includes food science labs, a nutrition assessment center with two counselling rooms, and a new state of art demonstration kitchen. Additionally, two new food science research labs are under construction for use beginning fall semester 2021. The Department seeks to recruit and retain a diverse faculty. Qualified applicants with experience in diverse settings and/or who demonstrate a commitment to serving diverse student populations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Usual Duties:

The Department invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the ACEND -Accredited FSN program at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor. This position is a tenure-track, nine-month appointment with potential summer employment. The expected start date is August 16, 2021.
Time allocation for this position is 75/25 with 75% allotted to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, service expectations and 25% for scholarly activities. Teaching expectations are three courses each fall and spring semesters. Evidence of teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Applicants will have a record of service to the profession and evidence of, or potential for, scholarly research leading to peer-reviewed publications.

Educational Requirements for the Position

An earned Ph.D. in Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, or related discipline. If Ph.D. in related discipline, a M.S. in Nutrition, Food Science, or Dietetics required. ABD considered but must have degree conferred by time of appointment.

Experience Required for the Position

Experience in any of these areas is an asset: public health nutrition, nutrition assessment, food science, community nutrition, or clinical nutrition management.

Other Requirements for the Position

Potential for leadership in areas of Didactic Program Director ( DPD ), Dietetic Internship Director (DI), Program Coordinator, or other demonstrated academic leadership experience is preferred. Candidates will possess good interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and congenially with a diverse faculty and student body is essential.
