Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of English at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for two (2) Full-Time Lecturers of Technical and Professional Communication. These 9-month positions start with the Fall 2021 semester.

The chosen candidate will teach five courses per semester and support SHSU’s emerging program in Technical Communication. Activities will include:
•Teaching the technical-writing service course, which is required by more than 20 majors on campus.
•Helping develop undergraduate curriculum in Technical Communication.
•Supporting the Department, College, and University through service.

Instructors in Technical Communication teach in computer-based classrooms and have access to Iris, our Technical-Communication Suite. This makerspace provides faculty and students with industry-standard technologies in audio, video, print, and digital document production.

Educational Requirements for the Position

An earned MA/MS in Technical Communication, Professional Writing, English, or another closely related field.

Experience Required for the Position

•Experience teaching (as the instructor of record) college-level courses in Technical/Professional Communication.
•Evidence of excellent communication skills.

Other Requirements for the Position

In addition to the above requirements, desirable candidates will have these experiences:
•Working professionally as a technical communicator (industry/consulting).
•Teaching Technical Communication in an online setting.
