Job Description Summary

The School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Architecture with teaching responsibilities centered in design studio as well as a specialized topic area, commencing August 2021.

The School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture ( APLA ) has a 110-year history of educating architects, interior architects, landscape architects and planners. The school contributes to the region and to the profession through outreach, scholarship and creative work. APLA includes three allied disciplines: Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Landscape Architecture, and offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree options. APLA resides in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction along with the School of Industrial and Graphic Design and the McWhorter School of Building Science.

The Architecture program seeks candidates who are interested in building upon and extending the school’s tradition of teaching and learning through visualization, fabrication and construction.

Candidates should have a strong interest in teaching beginning design studios, and an interest in one or a combination of the following topic areas:

Visual Communication
Digital Media & Representation

Candidates will be expected to continue and/or develop an active program of scholarly and creative work within the discipline which will be supported by the Architecture program.

The primary responsibility of a successful candidate for this position is to teach undergraduate architecture studios, lecture courses, and seminars/workshops in one of the topic areas above.

APLA is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching, research, outreach, and service. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD, Master of Architecture, or a Bachelor of Architecture plus a terminal degree in a related field, at the time employment begins.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time this position is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Auburn University is an EEO / VET /Disability Employer.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: demonstrated ability to teach design studio and related courses in a professional degree program, evidence of outstanding design skills, evidence of research/creative scholarship or the ability to develop and maintain an active research/creative scholarly program, and candidates holding a professional license in Architecture, or who have completed the experience requirements of the AXP program.
