Responsibilities:
Northeastern University, a globally located, diverse, research intensive, and comprehensive university with experiential education deeply embedded in all its educational offerings, seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as its Dean of Students (Dean). Reporting to and working closely with the Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Dean will be an integral leader in a division committed to delivering a world class experience for Northeastern students across all campuses.

With a personalized approach, visible presence on campus, and ability to build relationships across the Network, the Dean will serve as a trusted advisor for students, leading the way in building an engaged and inclusive student body. The Dean will have a genuine understanding of the topics the student body is discussing and debating and will serve as a direct link to senior leadership on the student experience. The Dean oversees Cultural & Spiritual Life and the Office of University Equity & Compliance at Northeastern and will serve as a strategic thought partner, contributing to the overall strategic planning for Student Affairs as it relates to the student experience. This role is a senior leadership position within the Division of Student Affairs and serves on the executive team of the Senior Vice Chancellor, providing counsel on matters pertaining to the student experience, programming, and activities.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an experienced student affairs leader with a minimum of 10 years of experience in co-curricular program planning and progressively responsible experience designing and delivering programs and services that support community and student development. The position requires experience leading and developing staff; strategic thinking and planning skills; strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students at all levels in a complex and diverse environment.

While no single candidate will have all the ideal qualifications, candidates should possess many of the following:
  • A master's degree in a relevant field. A terminal degree (PhD, EdD, JD) is preferred.
  • A proven record of success in developing and enhancing a sophisticated portfolio of student life programs within higher education.
  • Experience in leading and managing change with a proven ability to create an organizational culture that is responsive to student needs.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations including first-generation college students, low-income students, students of color, students with disabilities, and international students.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and creating spaces of belonging for all students.
  • Demonstrated success implementing diversity initiatives; in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, and theories in diversity, equity and inclusion and social justice.
  • A record of developing a strong sense of community and belonging amongst a diverse student body.
  • An ability to work well and form productive alliances with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of best practices in student affairs and a strong knowledge of student development theory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations related to Title IX and EEOC.
  • Experience in creating, implementing, and utilizing results of program assessments to improve student outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Appreciation for change management, innovation, and a global mindset.
  • Proven organizational skills, an ability to balance conflicting priorities, and a propensity to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the United States and abroad.
  • Enthusiasm for the Northeastern mission and an ability to work within a fast-paced, global research university.
