Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Catholic Charities USA

Alexandria, VA

Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), a national Catholic membership organization and the national office for Catholic Charities agencies nationwide, seeks an innovative and enthusiastic leader to serve as its Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO). For over a century, CCUSA has been a recognized name at the forefront of social services in America. CCUSA does not deliver services directly. Through Catholic teachings, educational, scientific and charitable activities, CCUSA seeks to enable the delivery of quality social services by its members, to convene the Catholic community and all people of goodwill for reflection and action, to build a just and compassionate society and to reduce poverty.

CCUSA seeks a CMCO who will work closely with its President, Sister Donna Markham, staff and a diverse network of constituents to advance its public-facing profile at this critical. The association has seen significant growth since its foundation over 100 years ago, but it has never seen demand for its services like those brought on by the COVID-19 crisis and finds itself in a position to significantly increase its outreach and impact.

Reporting directly to the President, the CMCO will lead CCUSA’s marketing and communications efforts. The CMCO will collaborate and advise on the association’s existing marketing and communication platforms and will identify new strategic alliances and brand awareness opportunities while working closely with internal teams and external constituents. As a member of the senior leadership team, the new CMCO will oversee the marketing and communications program planning process and identify media placements that widen and deepen CCUSA’s impact. The CMCO manages an experienced staff of six whom they will lead, empower, and develop.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of CCUSA’s Catholic identity and mission, and a minimum of ten years of experience in developing multi-faceted marketing and communications programs that elevate the perception of an entire institution with multiple audiences. The new CMCO will have exemplary written communication and keen strategic planning skills, experience in media relations and communications, especially as they pertain to a large, complex mission-oriented institution. The CMCO will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the communications process as well as excellent team and project management skills. A collaborative and collegial orientation is key, as are strong personal communications skills and intellectual curiosity. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is preferred.
