Assistant Professors of Public Health in Health Disparities (2 - 1 Tenure Track, 1 Clinical Track)
Old Dominion University (ODU) is seeking to hire two faculty members in public health (1 tenure track assistant professor, 1 clinical track assistant professor) in the broad area of health disparities/health equity/ environmental justice. ODU is a dynamic and innovative public research university located in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. The two positions are part of a hiring cluster aimed at fostering and strengthening collaborative work within the school and across the university on the topic of health disparities.
We are searching for public health faculty with experience in such areas as health disparities, health equity, disadvantaged populations and health outcomes, access to health services, links between food, diet and health disparities, environmental hazards and health disparities, environmental justice, and the implications of new health threats such as climate change for health disparities and health equity. The tenure track assistant professor position is expected to contribute primarily to the MPH (master of public health) program, while the clinical track assistant professor position will contribute mainly to undergraduate programs (Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Public Health). Both faculty members will have a primary appointment in the School of Community and Environmental Health, a thriving, multidisciplinary school with a strong commitment to excellence and diversity. In addition, the faculty members will contribute to a cutting-edge university center on health disparities, with a focus on the Hampton Roads region of Virginia.
Candidates for the tenure track position should have research, teaching and service records that merit appointment at the tenure track assistant professor level. Candidates for the clinical (non-tenure) position should have teaching, service, and applied/practice-based research records that merit appointment at the clinical assistant professor level. All ranks are commensurate with qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities: All applicants are required to have 1) a terminal degree in public health or a closely related field, 2) demonstrated experience teaching university-level courses that address in some form the topics of health disparities, health equity and environmental justice, 3) experience communicating and working with internal and external constituencies, 4) strong professional references, and 5) a demonstrated commitment to excellence and innovation in graduate/undergraduate education.
In addition, candidates for the tenure track position are required to have 1) an active research agenda related to health disparities/health equity/environmental justice, 2) a demonstrated record of quality publications and scholarship, and 3) demonstrated evidence of the potential to secure funding support. Candidates for the clinical track position are required to show evidence of promise or accomplishments of scholarship which are applied/practice-based in nature.
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training: Applicants are required to possess a terminal degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications: 1) experience
mentoring and advising students, 2) experience with distinct
teaching delivery formats such as hybrid and online formats, 3)
experience teaching diverse student populations and non-traditional
students, and 4) demonstrated community-based public health
