Old Dominion University (ODU) is seeking to hire a tenured /tenure-track senior faculty member in public health with expertise in the research areas of health disparities, health equity and/or environmental justice. ODU is a dynamic and innovative public research university located in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia.

We seek a senior scholar with an established record of publications, grants and teaching in such areas as health disparities, health equity, disadvantaged populations and health outcomes, access to health services, links between food, diet and health disparities, environmental hazards and health disparities, environmental justice, and the implications of new health threats such as climate change for health disparities and health equity.

The faculty member will have a primary appointment in the School of Community and Environmental Health and will be part of a hiring cluster aimed at fostering and strengthening collaborative research within the school, across the university, and external to the university. In addition, the faculty member will help develop a cutting-edge research center on health disparities, with a focus on the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Candidates must be at a senior level (Full Professor or Associate rank) and should have research, teaching and service records that merit a tenured appointment at that rank. All ranks are commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities: Applicants are required to have 1) a terminal degree in public health or a closely related field, 2) a demonstrated record of quality publications and scholarship, 3) a track record of funding support from NIH or similar sources, 4) excellent verbal and communication skills, 5) experience communicating and working with internal and external constituencies, 6) the ability to organize/lead research teams, 7) experience teaching courses that address in some form the topics of health disparities, health equity and environmental justice, 8) strong professional references, and 9) a demonstrated commitment to excellence and innovation in graduate and undergraduate education.

Minimum Qualifications - Education or training: Applicants are required to possess a terminal degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Qualifications: 1) experience mentoring doctoral students, 2) experience with distinct teaching delivery formats such as hybrid and online formats, 3) demonstrated independence, leadership and organizational skills, 4) demonstrated community-based public health practice experience.
