Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, Theatre Production and Design Instructor. The major responsibilities of the instructor include teaching theatre classes, assisting with production and planning of performances, developing and/or revising course curriculum, involving and guiding TMCC students in performing arts productions, and working as a vital member of the TMCC Performing Arts Team. This faculty member's primary teaching responsibilities will be to teach courses that may include but are not limited to introduction to theatre, theatre technology, and the history of theatre in a cultural context.

The successful candidate should be equipped to create, develop, and design new courses and curriculum for a new unrealized Arts Technology degree emphasis or certificate. Part of the successful candidates' responsibilities for the first two years will be assisting with the planning and launching of a new dedicated theatre space for the Performing Arts Program. Evening (rehearsals) and weekend (performance) work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

1. MA (Master of Arts) in Theatre Production and Design, or related areas such as acting, theatre arts management, or a related field with a background in theatre.

2. Teaching experience.

3. Professional experience in Design and Production for the Performing Arts (scenic, lighting, sound, costumes, and technical production)

4. Experience directing/managing - theatrical productions.

5. Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional and collegial manner.

Preferred Qualifications

1. M.F.A. (Master of Fine Arts) in Theatre Production and Design, or a related field.

2. Experience teaching at a community college.

3. Professional work in A/V, Mixed Media, Live Event Design, or related fields to Arts Technology.

4. Demonstrated ability to grow a theatre program or involvement in theater venue/performance space planning and development.

5. Demonstrated ability to increase student participation across a range of theater activities.

6. Evidence of skills in marketing and audience building, stage directing, interdisciplinary theatre, or multicultural theatre.

7. Evidence of innovative instructional techniques and technologies as well as strong written and oral communication skills.

8. Evidence of online teaching experience.

9. Theoretical understanding or demonstrated success in working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds and literacy practices.

Responsibilities

Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds. Teaching and workload assignments are scheduled throughout the calendar year, and may require evening and weekend obligations at one or more college locations.

1. Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with standards, mission, and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.

2. Teach 30 (15/15) credit or contact hours during the academic year, August through May

3. Teach day, evening, and/or weekend classes at one (1) or more college or dual credit locations, as well as online classes, as needed by the department.

4. Assist in production and planning of performances and work weekend performances as needed throughout the academic year.

5. Assist in the planning, development, and launch of a new theater space.

6. Instruct students using approved student learning outcomes, and assess student performance of the outcomes in the courses.

7. Assist with curriculum and program review, revision, assessment, and develop new course materials and innovative instructional concepts and techniques to facilitate student learning.

8. Participation in the exploration of productive and pedagogically sound methods for creating and assessing inclusive educational experiences for students.

9. Demonstrate awareness of diversity issues as they apply to instruction. Maintain sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds as well as disabilities of students.

10. Attend and actively participate in non-classroom activities such as College events, faculty (or professional) development, department and division meetings, college or NSHE committees, and community service activities.

11. Participate in student advising, recruitment, and retention efforts.

12. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in field knowledge and pedagogies that facilitate a breadth and depth of understanding in the discipline.

13. Assist the department chair and coordinators in mentoring part-time faculty.

14. Comply with departmental administrative responsibilities and published college and Nevada System of Higher Education policies and procedures.

15. Maintain regular office hours in a shared or private office.

16. Communicate and interact in a professional and collegial manner with faculty, students, staff, and administration, in the best interests of the college and the people it serves.

17. Work closely with department peers and administrator to understand processes and procedures that lead to becoming a successful teacher and contributing member of the academic unit.

18. Other duties as assigned.

Salary Information:

$46,691, salary placement will depend on education and experience. Salaries are subject to any related directives from the Board of Regents and Nevada Legislature.
