What we are looking for:

Baylor University’s Academy of Teaching and Learning Postdoctoral Fellowship in STEM Education is based on similar positions at higher education institutions across the U.S. The ATL Postdoctoral Fellow will join and initiate efforts at Baylor to redesign laboratory courses, develop STEM educators, and train graduate student instructors in sound, research-based pedagogical methods. Additionally, this position will better position Baylor to improve the experience of pre-med students and strengthen support structures for Tier 1 & Research 1 activities.

Requirement:  Doctoral degree in a STEM discipline and one year of relevant experience. 

A doctoral degree in a STEM discipline in hand by the start of the appointment is required. The ideal candidate will exhibit the following qualities and commitments:

  • experience in teaching
  • understanding of education research
  • familiarity with the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • experience with grant proposals and grant project management
  • strong oral and written communication skills
  • strong interpersonal skills
  • commitment to interdisciplinarity and collaboration
  • affirmation of the Academy for Teaching and Learning’s mission
  • understanding of and commitment to Baylor’s Christian mission

What you will be doing: STEM Education Research, Program Development, and Teaching

The Postdoctoral Fellow in STEM Education will have the following duties:

  • Conduct research and disseminate findings on effective STEM education
  • Prepare publishable articles on teaching and learning
  • Facilitate workshops for STEM faculty 
  • Initiate or manage grant proposals for funding for STEM education development
  • Support faculty development of curricula across STEM units
  • Create or contribute to targeted programming in the following areas—
  • redesigning lab courses
  • training STEM teaching and learning assistants
  • retaining pre-medicine students
  • Participate in ATL programs, workshops, and seminars
  • Teach at least one introductory-level STEM course
