The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is seeking a collaborative, highly organized, and process-oriented leader to serve as the university’s Chief Information Officer and the Director of Learning and Technology Services. This is a full-time position reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.  The anticipated start date is June 1, 2021. 

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) advises the Chancellor and the Chancellor’s Executive Staff on UW System and UW-Eau Claire technology initiatives and represents UW-Eau Claire on the UW System Council of Chief Information Officers. The CIO also serves as the Director of Learning and Technology Services and has overall administrative responsibility for technology services that support all academic departments, administrative units, business operations, student services, and research functions at UW-Eau Claire. The Director collaborates with each university division to provide strategic leadership and planning for UW-Eau Claire’s information technology projects. Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated success in project planning and implementation of technology-based initiatives.
  • Supervisory and budgetary experience within a technology-based organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

Desired Characteristics

  • A master’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a supportive, inclusive, and collegial workplace environment.
  • Proven ability to multitask, manage complex projects, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

The CIO and Director of LTS provides effective oversight, operational direction, and coordination for the following major functions:

  • Provide leadership within UW System for system-wide information and instructional technology initiatives.
  • Serve on the UW System Council of Chief Information Officers.
  • Encourage the identification of inter-campus collaborations to improve technology services across the UW System.
  • Collaborate with the Chancellor’s Executive Team, as well as appropriate faculty, staff, and student governance bodies, to determine the university’s computing and networking needs and to develop information technology and data governance policies and procedures.
  • Administer all services and activities of Learning and Technology Services (LTS) including management of personnel, budget, and physical resources.
  • Ensure the university’s technology resources (e.g., networks, servers, classroom and workspace computers, mobile printing, digital media, telephone, campus software applications, video conferencing capabilities, and classroom technology) are current, efficient, cost effective, and reliable.
  • Oversee campus-wide network and data security.
  • Provide leadership in assessment, planning, and implementation of technology services in a manner consistent with the university’s mission and strategic plans.
  • Provide campus with a responsive customer service center to offer timely support on technology related issues.
  • Assist the Director of Data Management and Analytics in gathering and reporting institutional data and business intelligence to improve university decision making.
  • Coordinate the training of LTS staff and encourage the staff’s ongoing professional development.
  • Employ managerial theories and practices that emphasize collaboration, team building, project management, and effective application of information technologies.
  • Develop and foster effective working relationships with LTS managers and staff, other division staff, faculty, students, and administrators, as well as personnel at other UW institutions, UW System, agencies and vendors.
  • Promote a culture of inclusive excellence and advance the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations as appropriate.
  • Provide high impact experiences for students through internships and other pre-professional opportunities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
