Assistant Director of Upward Bound, TRiO Programs
Reporting to the Associate Director of Upward Bound programs, the Assistant Director is responsible for assisting with the administration, implementation and continuation of the U.S. Department of Education-funded Upward Bound Southwest VA/ TRIO project. This project is dedicated to preparing high school students in southwest Virginia to pursue post-secondary education. Upward Bound: Southwest VA serves students who meet income-eligibility guidelines, are potential first-generation college students, and/or are considered academically at-risk, according to federal definitions.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for recruitment, retention and participation of program participants in accordance to federal regulations and departmental guidelines.
Assists Director and Associate Director with the design and implementation of the program budget.
Assists with the planning and coordination, implementation, and evaluation of academic, social, and cultural programs for students and families.
Responsible for the training, evaluation, and direct supervision of the tutor/mentors.
Assists the TRIO Programs Director and Associate Director with the compilation of materials for the Annual Performance Report for the U.S. Department of Education, Virginia Tech Outreach and International Affairs reports and coordinates tracking of former participants.
Maintains a caseload of participants, provides virtual and/or in-person services, group workshops and support to help students overcome barriers to post-secondary education.
When safe, allowable and advisable, travels to area schools and may need to transport students to program events such as on campus monthly tutorials, field trips and college visits.
Provide leadership and support to staff in all funded Upward Bound projects; represent Associate Director in internal and external meetings to support the interest of the unit, as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Education, Educational Administration, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field
Relevant professional experience working for a federal TRIO program and/or similar educational access program
Experience with the college selection and enrollment process, including demonstrated knowledge of financial aid and financial literacy, academic and career advising, college admissions and selection processes
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with varied constituents, ranging from university administration, school personnel, to participants and their families
Ability to develop working relationships with persons of culturally diverse backgrounds, including disadvantaged and underrepresented students and their families
Experience working for educational programs that address the needs of income eligible, first generation college, and students with demonstrated need
Demonstrated ability to write and secure local, state and/or federal grants/proposals
$52,000-$56,000 (Budget Maximum)
The successful Candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check
