The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is seeking a breast surgical oncologist to work at various University of Maryland Medical System hospitals in the Baltimore metropolitan area. This individual will be part of the Greenebaum Cancer Center (a NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center).

This full-time faculty position is designed for a fellowship-trained breast surgeon whose goal is to develop clinical, quality improvement, and clinical research programs in breast surgical oncology in a sophisticated community setting. The candidate will assure quality care, efficient resource management, service excellence, and maintenance of accreditation of the Breast Center (NAPBC and NQMBC). Collaboration with imaging, oncology, and integrative providers and supportive staff (nurse navigators, registry, etc.) and development and maintenance of strong referral relationships with community providers expected. The successful applicant will hold an appointment in the University of Maryland Department of Surgery in the Section of Surgical Oncology within the Division of General and Oncologic Surgery. This individual will participate in the research and quality improvement activities of the Department of Surgery and of the University of Maryland Cancer Network (UMCN).

The Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is a NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center ranked among the top cancer programs in the United States. The Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center has a robust basic and clinical research effort in breast cancer and was responsible for the development of aromatase inhibitors, now in worldwide use. The University of Maryland Cancer Network is the state-wide cancer network of the University of Maryland Medical System that cares for more than one in four of the 24,000 Marylanders diagnosed with cancer each year.

Qualifications :

This role will require significant interaction with a multidisciplinary team of individuals, including breast medical and radiation oncology faculty of The University of Maryland Marlene and Stuart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. Metrics for success will include clinical program development as well as clinical trials accrual in the field of breast surgery and oncology.
