Company Description:

Named one of the top 10 most innovative colleges in the country by U.S. News & World Report, Goucher College has also been recognized as a College that Changes Lives. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, Goucher is a private, coed, liberal arts college dedicated to teaching students to be complex problem solvers who are prepared for the jobs of the future. A Goucher education focuses on creating lifelong learners through an interdisciplinary, global education that requires 100% of our students to study abroad.

Job Description:

Goucher College invites applications from creative video artists who are looking for an opportunity to join the innovative and evolving practice of teaching video and digital production in the Communication and Media Studies program within the College's Center for Art and Media, as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The professor/student relationship is at the heart of our mission, and we seek faculty who have a strong commitment to teaching students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Requirements:

The Center seeks a teacher and artist who will have completed an M.F.A. in video production, filmmaking, or digital arts. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Communication, Film Studies, or Media Studies may also be considered. The position, beginning in August 2021, has an annual teaching load of 20 credits. The candidate should have broad-based working knowledge of video and digital media technologies in the creation of narrative, documentary, and/or alternative and hybrid media. We also highly value experience in teaching courses on writing for electronic media. Experience in photography, journalism, audio production, and the use of digital technologies in other artistic practice will be considered as advantageous but not required for the successful candidate. Our pedagogy emphasizes the training of students as producers, directors, writers, and editors, while also equipping them with the technical skills needed across the range of digital media practices. The new faculty member will be expected to teach a range of courses in field, studio, and postproduction environments.

Additional Information:

We encourage innovation both inside and outside the classroom. We also incorporate an international perspective into each discipline. Communication and Media Studies has approximately 60 undergraduate majors and offers a curriculum that integrates critical media studies, film studies, journalism, new media, video, audio, and web production, and photography. A new major in Digital Arts is in the planning stages.

Goucher College is committed to increasing the diversity of our community and seeks applicants dedicated to applying principles of equity and inclusion in all areas of the campus community. We are dedicated to the goal of building a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty, and strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups. The review of applications will begin on February 25, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. The college will notify applicants of its employment decisions after the position is filled.
