Position Summary:

Clinical faculty hired under this PVL will have C basis (9 month) appointments and be responsible for undergraduate (traditional and accelerated programs) instruction and evaluation of student learning in the classroom, in simulated care environments, and through experiential learning in acute care and community health settings in academic year. Assignment to teach in graduate programs (Doctor of Nurse Practice or PhD) is also possible depending on expertise, qualifications, and program need. Clinical faculty collaborate with colleagues in course and curriculum development, improvement, and evaluation. Clinical faculty engage in service activities aimed at accomplishing the mission and strategic vision of the School of Nursing including committees and taskforces. Clinical faculty pursue scholarly activities individually or in scholarship teams that advance nursing science, education, or practice. Clinical faculty contribute to School of Nursing and University of Wisconsin-Madison goals for diversity and inclusive excellence.

Principal Duties:

* Teach in baccalaureate (accelerated, traditional, and AD to BSN completion) or DNP programs as appropriate to expertise and program need.
* Teach using strategies to include active learning, simulated experiential learning, and clinical experiential learning in hospital or other health care settings or in community care situations as required by course assignments.
* Collaborate with other faculty on curriculum and course planning at the graduate and undergraduate levels, using concept- based teaching strategies at the undergraduate level.
* Contribute to the School of Nursing mission through service activities (e.g., governance committees, outreach activities, or project task groups).
* Pursue areas of scholarly interest (e.g., evaluation studies to improve teaching and learning).
* Collaborate with colleagues in practice settings through academic-practice partnerships to contribute to student learning, practice improvement, or community outreach
* Work to support and enhance the diversity, climate, and inclusive excellence of the School of Nursing.
* Engage in other activities appropriate to a member of the School of Nursing academic community such as providing staffing for public health emergencies (e.g. Covid 19 vaccination clinics), attending School meetings, participating in faculty development activities, and contributing to meeting the mission and vision of the School.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

* Graduate (masters) degree in nursing is required.
* Doctoral degree (Doctor of Nursing Practice, PhD, or other doctoral degree) is strongly preferred.
* Appointments for candidates prepared at the Masters level will be at the rank of Clinical Instructor. Appointments for candidates prepared at the doctoral level will typically be at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

* One or more years of experience in teaching at undergraduate or graduate levels in nursing, or in professional staff development in acute care settings; and
* Three or more years of professional experience in an acute care setting as a registered nurse (RN), advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).
* Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interest in and commitment to the teaching mission of the School.
* Experience with clinical instruction, active learning, concept-based teaching, simulation, and inter-professional education is highly desirable.

License or Certificate:

* RN licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin is required.
* Individuals with certification as advanced practice registered nurses, clinical nurse specialists, or as nurse educators are highly encouraged to apply, however, certification is not required.
