Position Summary

The Department of Large Animal Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia, is seeking candidates for a clinical-track faculty position in internal medicine at the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor. The successful candidate will join four other internists. The caseload is approximately 85% equine, the remainder being primarily small ruminants, companion pigs, new world camelids, and cattle. The medicine service is currently supported by three medicine residents and three rotating interns shared with other hospital services. In addition to the members of the medicine service, there are four surgeons, three emergency criticalists, and two anesthesiologists in the Large Animal In-house Section. The service is also supported by members of the Field Services Section with interest and certifications in dentistry, sports medicine and rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, podiatry, theriogenology, and production medicine. The teaching and service activities in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital are shared with one Sports Medicine clinician and two Farm Practice clinicians.

Major responsibilities include:
Instruction- The successful candidate will participate in the department’s relevant clinical rotations, as well as didactic and laboratory courses commensurate with clinical track appointment. Instructional responsibilities in the discipline are shared with four internists.
Service- Service to clients and referring veterinarians is an integral part of hospital duties. The successful candidate should have an interest in promoting a caseload and innovative services that will serve the teaching and service needs of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Development of continuing education programs to veterinarians and the public is encouraged.
Research- The successful applicant is expected to participate in scholarly activities related to the clinical service and teaching missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine. However, establishing an independent research program is not expected. Rather, collaboration with colleagues within the department, and in other departments and colleges on campus is encouraged.

Additional Requirements

To be considered for the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor (Non-Tenure Track), candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree; have 4 years post- DVM experience in clinical, laboratory and didactic teaching of veterinary students; and be a Diplomate of or eligible to submit credentials for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal).

To be considered for the rank of Clinical Associate Professor (Non-Tenure Track), candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree; have a minimum of 9 years post- DVM experience (at the time of appointment) in clinical, laboratory and didactic teaching of veterinary students; and be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal).

The successful candidate will have a valid license (regular Georgia or faculty) to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Georgia or be willing to obtain and maintain a valid license (regular Georgia or faculty) to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Georgia.

The doctor will be responsible for supervising house officers and students receiving cases coming through the Hospital, as well as teaching students on the clinic floor through case-based and/or didactic rounds.

The doctor will be responsible for cases coming through the Hospital. Additionally, will act as backup to residents performing weekend and after-hours emergency coverage is required.
