Position Summary:
The Administrative Financial Specialist positions within the Office of Sponsored Programs are responsible for the financial management of all externally funded sponsored projects. This position will apply a solid understanding of federal, state, and other regulations and processes surrounding sponsored projects in order to ensure financial stewardship of funds and minimize university risk of loss due to non-compliance. They act as intermediaries between the funded university units and the sponsor and act as a resource for questions regarding specific contractual requirements. Additionally, employees in these positions must often translate complex regulatory requirements into layman's terms.


Minimum Qualifications:
• Experience using standard word processing, spreadsheet and email software.
• Experience and knowledge of accounting practices; computer database software; financial record keeping methods; and billing and receiving.
• Experience in debiting and crediting transactions; reconciling accounts; preparing a variety of financial reports; researching and correcting accounting records; and interpreting and applying regulations and policies.
• Experience in operating a calculator; using personal computers to enter, retrieve, and edit financial data.
• Experience communicating in a professional manner with a variety of constituents in both verbal and written form.
• Experience managing multiple projects under tight deadlines, and to multitask and to complete tasks with multiple interruptions and distractions.


Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or other related field, or a minimum of 20 hours in accounting coursework.

• Two or more years of experience: Troubleshooting and resolving fiscal problems and reporting and correcting discrepancies; creating and maintain accurate records and transactions; working with Banner financial system; interpreting and explaining rules, policies and procedures; sound analysis and decision-making skills.

• Experience working in the area of Grant & Contract financial accounting.

• Ability to work in close proximity with other employees without being distracted or being a distraction.
