Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a full-time faculty member in Radiation Oncology who will join the community based Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Peninsula clinic in Poulsbo, Washington; a successful established community cancer center with 2.5 radiation oncologists as well as medical oncology services serving patients on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas. This position will serve as the Medical Director for SCCA – Peninsula.

The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington on the clinician-educator pathway as an Assistant Professor WOT with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021 or earlier.  This position has an annual service period (July 1 - June 30).  This is a full-time position with a twelve month appointment with salary paid over twelve months.

The radiation oncology service provides a full complement of radiation therapy with an Elekta Synergy linear accelerator, Phillips CT simulator, providing IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SBRT, SRT, and brachytherapy services. The successful applicant will be expected to provide exceptional patient care and service. Responsibilities of the radiation oncologist include evaluation and treatment of patients, participation in tumor boards as well as community events to build and maintain the site of practice. The successful applicant is expected to engage in research and education, and to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Department Overview

The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients annually from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy.  Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics and tumor boards. We enjoy strong collaborations with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and several imaging research laboratories.  The Department has 24 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 22 physics and 2 research faculty, who engage in active multi-disciplinary clinical and basic research.  Educational opportunities in our residency programs, fellowship programs and post-doctoral fellowships abound. A strong interest and commitment in research and education is expected, as well as strong collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams. 

The Kitsap Community

The city of Poulsbo is located in the northern part of Kitsap County and is in proximity to the Pacific coast with ample year-round recreational activities including skiing, boating, walking, hiking, and biking in close vicinity. Natural beauty lies within close reach on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula with expansive parks, forests, lakes and mountains. Poulsbo is in close proximity of Bainbridge Island, home to one of the best school districts in the State of Washington and is an easy ferry commute to the city of Seattle that offers ample opportunity to attend professional sports venues, a myriad of museums and restaurants, music and other cultural events.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or equivalent, and be board certified in Radiation Oncology.  For applicants recently completing residency training, the appointment candidates who are ABR board eligible, provided she/he becomes board certified within two years of taking the position, will be considered.  Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.  In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must demonstrate successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
