The Douglass Project

Established in 1986, the Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in STEM was one of the first programs in the nation established to advance undergraduate women in STEM. Today, the Project thrives, providing academic and co-curricular programs for our diverse undergraduate students pursuing degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The Project’s goals are to increase the participation and retention of students in STEM majors and to retain graduates in STEM careers or graduate school. We are proud of our 95% retention of women engineers who participate in the Reilly Douglass Living-Learning Community as well as the retention of women in STEM majors who participate in our research program.

Douglass is also the home of the Big Ten Academic Alliance Working Group for Advancing Undergraduate Women in STEM, connecting the Douglass Project to a thriving community of practice across major public institutions in the nation. Other Douglass Project partnerships include corporate collaborators, Rutgers’ School of Engineering, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences, Department of Computer Science, and extensive alumnae involvement. * The program is currently undergoing an external review that will be available to the new Dean to use in planning and decision-making.
