Assistant Professor for Human Resource Management & Organizational Behavior (Tenure Track, F0177A)

The Department of Management in the Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University invites applications from qualified candidates for one (1) tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level starting in August 2021.

Job Description: Responsibilities include high-quality research that is publishable in top-tier journals, teaching management courses (such as Human Resource Management and/or Organizational Behavior) at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as service to the university, the local community, and profession.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum required qualifications for the position include: (1) a Ph.D. (by August 2021) in Management or a related discipline with an emphasis in Human Resource Management or Organizational Behavior, preferably from an AACSB/EQUIS accredited institution; (2) evidence of strong scholarly contribution and demonstration of ability to publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed management-focused journals; and (3) evidence of teaching effectiveness in management-related courses.

Preferred Qualifications: Strome College and ODU have recently launched several initiatives to engage with local businesses and the broader community. The Management department plays a critical role in supporting these initiatives, including organizing an annual Strome-SHRM Workforce conference, and workshops for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Preference will be given to candidates who have an interest and/or experience in using their professional knowledge and skills to support these or other community-focused initiatives.

Strome College of Business: The college was named in June 2014 as part of the Strome Family Foundation’s gift to establish a multi-pronged approach to nurturing entrepreneurship throughout the university. AACSB-accredited in both business and accounting, the college offers a wide range of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. More than 100 full-time equivalent faculty serve more than 3,000 undergraduate and 450 graduate students, including approximately 100 doctoral students. The college also offers both its MBA and undergraduate programs online.

Management Department: The Department of Management has 13 tenure-track faculty, many of whom have leadership positions within the university, scholarly journals, and the Academy of Management. They currently include: Andrew Bennett, Emily Campion, Li-Wei Chen, Martin Goossen, Kris Irwin, Sheila Keener, Elko Klijn, Ryan Klinger, Soo-Hoon Lee, Shaomin Li, Anil Nair (Chair), Jay O’Toole, Rob Pidduck, and Jing Zhang.

The department is actively involved in instruction at the undergraduate level as well as the graduate level (MBA program and doctoral program). The Department of Management has a very collegial and supportive environment, which oversees a doctoral program in Strategic Management. The department plays a vital role in supporting the college’s strategic focus in international business and entrepreneurship.
