Job Description

The Virginia Tech Honors College invites applications for the position of Assistant Collegiate Professor in Blacksburg, VA. The duties are as follows: Mentor highly motivated honors students, teach honors courses, lead collaborative problem solving studios and related undergraduate research, collaborate with the industry partners of the program and contribute to the overall development of Discovery Program and the Honors College, participate in college-and university-level service, committee work, and other duties as assigned, and to pursue a program of personal research that engages aspects of collaborative, transdisciplinary teaching and learning. Industrial Design courses taught include Calhoun Transdisciplinary Fusion Studio and Contexts for Technology Innovation. The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design or a closely related field and extensive industry experience or a terminal degree in design and some industry experience. No specific amount of experience is required. A demonstrated track record of teaching collaborative courses in the studio environment and/or proven track record of working in a design consultancy environment. A strong record of academic or professional accomplishments and the proven ability to work collaboratively as a designer in an interdisciplinary team. Proven ability to teach undergraduate courses in both thematic and methods topics. Experience with and commitment to interdisciplinary research and instruction and a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries to address complex societal challenges in a transdisciplinary manner. Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate students in developing interdisciplinary capacities. A criminal conviction check is required. Mail resume to H.
