Job Description Summary

The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture ( APLA ) at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a dual appointment in the Interior Architecture and Architecture programs commencing August 2021.

APLA has a 114-year history of educating architects, interior architects and landscape architects. The school contributes to the region and to the profession through outreach, scholarship and creative work. APLA has four allied degree programs: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Bachelor and Master of Landscape Architecture. The Bachelor of Interior Architecture is offered as an imbedded concurrent degree with the first-professional Bachelor of Architecture degree. APLA recently celebrated 90 years of interior design education and 20 years since the founding of the Interior Architecture dual-degree program. APLA resides in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction along with the School of Industrial and Graphic Design and the McWhorter School of Building Science.

The Interior Architecture program seeks candidates with a strong interest in the inter-disciplinary field of Interior Architecture, particularly in productive combinations with Architecture and Landscape Architecture. The successful candidate will be required to maintain an active scholarly program disseminated through appropriate disciplinary, peer-reviewed venues. Funding is available to support these activities. Responsibilities of the appointment include teaching design studios in Interior Architecture and Architecture and lectures/seminars in one or more of the following topic areas:
- Emerging computation and fabrication processes
- Visualization including environmental performance simulation and/or material/spatial imagination
- History and theory of Interior Architecture

APLA is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and service. Excellent communication skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a master’s degree in architecture or other terminal degree in a related discipline, at the time employment begins.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements for the work in the United States at the time this position is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Auburn University is an EEO /Vet/Disability employer.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: demonstrated ability to teach design studio and related courses in the topic areas described above; evidence of research/creative scholarship or the ability to develop an active research/creative scholarly program; evidence of outstanding design skills; experience in professional practice; professional registration and advanced degrees in Interior Architecture or related design fields. The successful candidate will be a creative designer whose work is grounded in contemporary practice.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
