Position Summary
The Simmons University School of Social Work (SSW) is now accepting applications for an Academic Advisor with responsibility for managing the advising functions for new and enrolled graduate students in the College of Social Sciences, Policy, and Practice (CSSPP). This includes students in both campus-based and online platforms. Reporting to the Associate Program Director, Student Facing, the Academic Advisor participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate student success by defining and implementing
strategies that help students fulfill educational goals;
- Monitor degree completion, interpret Simmons School of Social
Work policies and procedures, use judgment to provide solutions and
resolve student issues;
- Serve in a leadership role in addressing retention and
persistence for students;
- Works intensively with students admitted under a conditional
admissions status and students exhibiting poor academic performance
(students who are at higher risk for withdrawal, leave of absence
and dismissal);
- Collaborates with external partner (2U) and the Simmons
University registrar to manage data on persistence and
retention;
- Collaborates with and stays in close working contact with the
Student Success team, Admissions Counsels, and Field Placement
Specialist.
Qualifications
- MSW required; LCSW or LCSW-eligible preferred
- Prior experience in student facing advising role or other
relevant work is a plus;
- Experience advising and/or teaching online programs a
plus;
- Proven ability in developing strong relationships through a
variety of means (including remote engagement);
- Demonstrated strong time management, customer service, problem
solving and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing
situations;
- Comfort with online webinar technology (i.e. Adobe Connect,
Zoom, Webex, GoToMeeting, etc.)
- Ability to effectively work with multiple databases and/or
student platforms;
- Position may require flexible hours, some nights and weekends
on an as needed basis.

This is a full-time position that can be Boston-based or fully remote, with expectations of availability for campus-based activities as needed.
In addition, this position does not constitute clinical social work and therefore supervision hours towards licensure cannot be earned.
