George Mason University, School of Art is seeking applications for a tenure-track or tenured Assistant/Associate Professor position to support the Art Education Master of Arts in Teaching program and adjacent programs in the School of Art. About the Program:
The Art Education MAT program continues to thrive as a result of substantive curricular changes, continued collaboration with Fairfax County Public Schools, and the implementation of an Accelerated Bachelors to Masters program. Our Art Education MAT graduates are in high demand and in the past four years, the program has a 100% job placement rate. We seek applicants whose work addresses areas such as pre-service education and licensure, curriculum theory and assessment, contemporary art and design, socially engaged art education, community-based art, professional development with PreK-12 teachers, action research and other related classroom-based methodologies. This position begins August 2021.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in the MAT program and develop new courses that will expand the School’s offerings and serve students in related disciplines;
  • Sustain an active program of scholarly research in their areas of expertise, produce peer-reviewed publications, and participate in local and national professional organizations;
  • Supervise Student Teachers and Mentor capstone research; 
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching within the School of Art; 
  • Complement existing faculty expertise in art, theory, research and intersecting areas;
  • Advise students and contribute to the School’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in art education or a related field; 
  • Successful experience teaching at collegiate and/or PreK-12 level.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teacher preparation; 
  • Research inquiry that informs and supports the development of preservice and in-service art educators;
  • Capacity for leadership, and a record of strong research and scholarship; 
  • Demonstrated interest in contemporary art and/or design pravirvirctice.
