Job Description:

The Department of Theatre & Dance at Western Kentucky University (WKU) seeks applications for a Technical Director/Instructor, to begin August 15, 2021. A master's degree in Theatre or other appropriate field along with relevant professional technical theatre experience is required, as well as Technical Direction experience in an educational or professional setting. We are a vibrant, growing undergraduate department offering BAs in Dance and Theatre and a BFA in Performing Arts with concentrations in Musical Theatre, Acting, Theatre, and Theatre Design and Technology. 

Primary responsibilities include: managing the construction, installation and rigging of scenery, and providing technical support for lighting, sound and properties for all departmental productions; managing the scene shop; supervising student-workers and technical theatre students; maintaining scene shop tools, equipment and facilities; purchasing supplies and materials for departmental productions; overseeing all appropriate safety procedures; organizing student crew assignments; and teaching as needed in the area of technical theatre.

Requirements:

Master's degree in Theatre or other appropriate field. Relevant professional technical theatre experience. Experience in wood and metal scenery construction, stage rigging and CAD applications for theatre. Technical Director or Assistant Technical Director experience in an educational or professional setting.
