Fellow/ Senior Fellow for India, Pakistan, and South Asia

Overview

The David Rockefeller Studies Program at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is seeking to hire a fellow or senior fellow for India, Pakistan, and South Asia. The position is focused on India, which is increasing its global prominence and impact. The decisions that India makes are felt across South Asia and beyond, making it essential for Americans to understand the forces shaping India’s internal evolution and policy choices. The selected candidate will be expected to conduct original research and write either on India’s domestic development or its foreign policy. The position is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual looking to shape the conversation over what policies the United States should pursue toward India, Pakistan, and South Asia more broadly. The position will be assigned at either the fellow or senior fellow level, depending on the selected applicant’s credentials and accomplishments.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

• Writing books, articles, and op-eds.
• Organizing and leading roundtables, study groups, and workshops at CFR on India’s domestic or foreign policies and identifying the consequences for the United States and possible U.S. policy responses.
• Interacting with CFR’s distinguished membership and participating in CFR programs and activities.
• Meeting with administration officials, members of Congress, their staffs, and other relevant groups to brief them on research findings and recommendations.
• Educating a broader public audience through media interviews and public speaking.
• Developing fundraising proposals for the program in collaboration with senior staff.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field, or equivalent experience in government, journalism, or business.
• Demonstrated expertise on India, whether on its domestic or foreign policies.
• An established publication record on India.
• Strong research, writing, and speaking skills.
• Experience mentoring junior staff preferred.
