Position Summary:

This position will work with the Director of the Wisconsin Intensive Summer Languages Institutes (WISLI) and the Director of the Language Program Office (LPO) to support grant and program activities and ensure programs are meeting stated language proficiency, culture acquisition, and research project outcomes. In addition, this position will be involved in designing and delivering pedagogy training to other instructors of Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTL) as well as the development of Hindi and Urdu materials to be used for remote, in-person, or hybrid language classes. This position will support the following programs and any additional South Asian/LCTL language-related project funded through the LPO. Programs include: South Asian Flagship Language Initiatives (SAFLI); the South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI); the Project Global Officers (PGO), the Regional Flagship Languages Initiative's Culture Initiative, etc.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

M.A. in Hindi/Urdu language, linguistics, second language acquisition or related field required. PhD preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-At least three years of language teaching experience in Hindi or Urdu, 5 years preferred
-Superior-level proficiency (on the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages scale) in either Hindi or Urdu, ability to read and write in both Devanagari and Nastaliq
-Excellent organizational and project management skills
-Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with excellent professional judgment
-Superior professional English writing skills
-Computer proficiency, experience working with learning management systems and language-learning technologies
-Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders such as faculty, instructional staff, administrative staff, students, external visitors, and grant sponsors.
-Preferred experience in language program coordination or administration

Additional Information:

The employment title will be Assistant Faculty Associate. The position will be a 12-month annual-basis fixed-term renewable appointment at 100% time. Continuation of the position is expressly dependent on job performance and continued external funding. Additional expectations:
Schedule is 9-5pm, with work expected on some evenings and weekends, such as during travel assignments and reporting/grant writing periods. Upon hire, the Hindi-Urdu Pedagogy Specialist will receive ACTFL OPI training, with the expectation of completing ACTFL OPI tester certification in either Hindi or Urdu. In addition, the Hindi-Urdu Pedagogy Specialist is expected to regularly organize and present pedagogy research at professional conferences, such NCOLCTL, ACTFL, SALTA, and/or the Annual Conference on South Asia.
