Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

Virginia Commonwealth University ( VCU ) University Counseling Services ( UCS ) invites applications for the position of Senior Staff Clinician. We are a dynamic center committed to promoting diversity and inclusion and invite applicants who share similar values. General duties include initial assessments, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, crisis work, trainee supervision, consultation with university faculty and staff, and other duties as assigned. The position may require working at least one evening per week.

Minimum Hiring Standards

The successful candidate must have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology or counseling psychology from an APA accredited doctoral program, ABD in psychology also permitted with expectation of completed degree within one year of hire date, and completed an APA accredited internship or MSW in Social Work or Master’s in a related field with 2 years of experience. The candidate must also be licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The position also requires excellent communication skills, both oral and written, strong interpersonal skills, and experience with brief psychotherapy and group therapy. A demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as an understanding of and commitment to diversity issues in the delivery of clinical services is also required.

We seek someone who is collaborative in nature, practices good self-care, and possess the ability to manage a challenging workload while promoting a positive atmosphere and healthy relationships.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Strong preference will be given to professionals who have an interest and experience in working with students with substance use concerns.
