Reporting to the Vice-President & Principal of the U of T Scarborough campus, and working collaboratively within a tri-campus system, the Vice-Principal, Research & Innovation (VPRI) is a member of the Campus Executive Team and strategically oversees all its research programmes and infrastructure. The Vice-Principal, Research & Innovation is responsible for taking a systems approach to enhancing research, associated creative activities, and innovation capacity within and beyond the Campus, including leading the development and enhancement of effective partnerships with community organizations, business, industry and other post-secondary institutions. The Vice-Principal, Research & Innovation is also responsible for the efficient administration and management of the Office of the Vice-Principal, Research & Innovation.

The ideal candidate will have a distinguished record of research, teaching, service and grant success, consistent with appointment at the rank of full professor at U of T. The candidate will also have extensive, demonstrated,  accomplishments as a successful academic administrator and a scholar-leader in a research-intensive institution, with evidence of commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment, where everyone is valued and supported to thrive. The candidate will have the ability to drive and to facilitate a broad range of individual and collaborative research and creative activity, both disciplinary and interdisciplinary; will be skilled at engaging collaboratively with internal and external partners and stakeholders; and will have a sophisticated understanding of the research funding landscape, including granting councils, philanthropy, and commercial/industrial partnerships. The successful candidate will be a visionary, inspiring, and passionate enabler of the campus’ strategic research and innovation priorities and directions; a champion of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences; and the embodiment of integrity, transparency, and accountable stewardship.

 

The new Vice-Principal, Research & Innovation will assume office on July 1, 2021 or as mutually agreed.
