Position Summary:
The Program Director/Assistant Professor of Dietetics at
Arkansas State University is responsible to the dean, College of
Nursing and Health Professions for the general management,
operation and leadership of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics.
The program director is responsible for representing their program
to the dean and university administration, supporting faculty in
their professional development, working with faculty to improve
instructional programs, developing/modifying programs and
curriculums that are responsive to the changing needs of students,
accreditation standards and assessment feedback and plotting a
future course for dietetics and nutrition at A-State
The Program Director is expected to deliver instruction, perform
research in his/her area of interest, perform service for the
respective profession and community, and participate in the
management of the Program, College, and University through shared
governance
Duties & Responsibilities:
Currently there is an accredited baccalaureate program and the program will be adding a Master’s Degree in Nutrition beginning in Fall 2022. The program director is responsible for assuring that all ACEND accreditation standards, policies and procedures, and program standards are met. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- 12-month, Tenure Track position; teaching workload expected to be 9-credit hours per semester.
- Development of policies and procedures for effectively all components of the program and to ensure fair, equitable and considerate treatment of prospective and enrolled students
- Student recruitment, advisement, evaluation and counseling
- Maintenance of program accreditation, including timely submission of fees, report and requests for major program changes
- Maintenance of the program’s student records, including student advising plans, supervised experiential learning hours and verification statements
- Maintenance of complaints about the program received from students or others, including disposition of the complaint
- On-going review of the program’s curriculum to meet the accreditation standards
- Communication and coordination with program faculty, preceptors and others involved with the program and its student
- Facilitation of processes for continuous assessment of program and student learning outcomes
- Timely submission of required documentation supporting the graduate’s eligibility for a Commission on Dietetics Registration credentialing exam.
- Recruit and maintain preceptors and supervised practice sites for student rotations
- Mentor junior faculty
- Meet with program Advisory Board on a regular basis.
- Establish short- and long-term goals for the program
- Other duties as assigned

Strong written and verbal communication skills required

Monday-Friday
8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Teaching Philosophy
Minimum Qualifications:
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist according to the Commission on
Dietetic Registration with minimum of a Master’s Degree (Doctorate
preferred); evidence of professional preparation in nutrition and
dietetics; minimum of three years professional experience post
credentialing; strong knowledge and awareness of professional
developments related to area of expertise
Licensure as an LD or LDN in the State of Arkansas or obtain
licensure within one-year of appointment
A record of quality teaching and research or the potential for
quality teaching and research must be demonstrated
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with the Accreditation Council for Education in
Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Active memberships in appropriate
professional organizations
