Sacred Heart University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N. & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing.

The Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N. & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing (College) awards baccalaureate degrees to traditional and second-degree students.  Graduate education offered by the College includes the MSN, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).  The College has 38 full-time faculty members; its total enrollment in Fall 2020 was 1,583 students.  Sacred Heart University, one of the country’s fastest-growing universities and the second-largest Catholic university in New England, is deeply rooted in the Catholic intellectual tradition and is entrepreneurial, nimble, and creative in its approach to all aspects of its programs and services.

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will build on the current success of the College and its faculty and take to the next level its development as a national leader in nursing education and applied research.  Working with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners throughout SHU, the Dean will provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction for the College to assume a prominent role both regionally, nationally and internationally in addressing the critical needs of the profession.

An earned doctorate from an accredited institution with at least one graduate degree in nursing is required.  The successful candidate will have a record of achievement in teaching, research, and service, which merits appointment as a tenured Associate Professor or Professor within the College.  Demonstrated support for excellence and innovation in undergraduate and graduate nursing education is essential.  It is expected that the Dean will embrace nursing education, research, and service to prepare and empower future nurses to confront the healthcare demands of a complex and technologically advanced society.

Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited.  Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Profile.  These materials should be sent electronically via e-mail to Sacred Heart University’s consultants Sheila Murphy and Claudia Teschky at SHUCONDean@wittkieffer.com.  Confidential inquiries may be directed to the consultants through Shalonda Alleyne at 630-575-6157.

Sacred Heart University values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other status protected by law.
