Head Golf Course Superintendent

 

Coastal Carolina University is accepting applications for the following position: Head Golf Course Superintendent (Building/Grounds Supervisor II). The Golf Course Superintendent reports to the General Manager of Golf and Sports Turf and is entrusted with the maintenance, operations and management of The Hackler Course grounds. The superintendent will carefully manage and implement maintenance procedures while conserving and protecting natural resources. They directly influence the playing and landscape areas with which golfers interact.

 

Duties will include, but not be limited to: assist in the preparation of annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of course properties; establish and enforce safety practices in compliance with local, state and federal regulations; ensure the overall organization and cleanliness of the golf course, equipment, maintenance facility, and grounds; responsible for training and supervising maintenance staff including training of all student golf course sports turf interns; develop and coordinate the work schedules for all full-time and part-time golf course sports turf employees; responsible for prioritizing, scheduling and managing the day-to-day maintenance and project workload for the golf course; responsible for the planning, supervising, and execution of all the tasks associated with maintaining 125 acres of the golf course, practice areas, clubhouse, and surrounding areas; and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and three (3) years related work experience with one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.  Candidate must obtain and maintain a valid SC Pesticide Applicator's license.  An Associate’s degree in Turfgrass Management or related Agronomy field and golf course management experience is preferred. 

 

A successful candidate will also possess the following: working knowledge of the maintenance practices and methods for golf course turf to include tees, fairways, greens; the seeding, planting, and caring for plants; the characteristics and suitable use of fertilizers; pesticides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods and irrigations systems; skills to operate, maintain, and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or material used in performing essential job related functions; ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work; to prepare clear and correct reports; and maintain good employee and public relations.
