Job Description

The Collaborative Computing Solutions (CCS) department within the Division of IT at Virginia Tech works to ensure that faculty, staff, and students at the university have access to robust tools and environments to empower innovation and collaboration at all levels. To support this mission, CCS is seeking a talented technical IT manager to join our team.

CCS directly manages the following services for Virginia Tech:
-University Email Services (Gmail and Exchange Online)
-VT SaaS Offerings (G Suite for Education, Office 365, and Slack)
-Cloud Accounts and Services (AWS, Azure, and GCP)
-Secure Virtual Environments (Hyper-V)
-VT Active DirectoryAzure Active Directory

This position will serve as a technical IT manager of the CCS systems administration team by leading the implementation, development, and maintenance of enterprise-level information systems. In this capacity, the Manager will provide technical consultancy, expertise, coaching and advice to all team members, in addition to providing management on matters of technical architecture and infrastructure for all delivered solutions. This position will also research, document, and enforce best practices for design, development, and testing.

The IT Manager, CCS will also be technically inclined to align architectural solutions with other groups within IT including collaboration on solution design to ensure fit for purpose and end-to-end solutions. The Manager will promote the agile and effective reuse of code, components, and systems. The position will also ensure that solutions delivered are supportable, cost effective, meet strategic business needs, and align with our technical strategy.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Information Technology, Computer Science or related field or related experience
-Significant experience in systems analysis and development of automated processes and monitoring
-Significant experience in administering Windows Servers and Linux operating systems
-Significant knowledge of network infrastructure configurations and virtual environments
-Experience managing and coaching technical teams
-Demonstrated plan and coordinate team efforts to meet initiative deadlines
-Working experience with agile, sprint-based project management
-Working experience in coordinating team efforts effectively during outages events
-Demonstrated ability to anticipate potential problems, determine and implement proactive solutions
-Strong understanding and implementation of systems and network administration best practices
-Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

-Master's degree or higher in Business Information Technology, Computer Science or related field or related experience
-Significant experience working with Microsoft Directory Services, Microsoft System Center and other Microsoft enterprise components
-Significant experience with clustered Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments, including direct management of hardware, software, networking and storage
-Working experience working with Cloud based service and deployment models including PaaS, IaaS and SaaS from vendors such as AWS, Azure and GCP
-Working experience with SQL Server (including MS SQL, NoSQL and MySQL)
-Working experience with additional programming or scripting languages such as C#, C++, .NET, PowerShell
