We anticipate two (2) visiting assistant professor positions in mathematics, September 1, 2021 –
June 30, 2022. The department of mathematics seeks outstanding teachers with research interests that mesh well with those of the continuing mathematics faculty in the department. The teaching responsibility is 4 courses per academic year.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mathematics and must have significant teaching experience as instructors of record . A strong preference is given to the applicants who have at least one year of full-time teaching experience at a four-year college or university, and can offer evidence of exceptional teaching and mentoring of undergraduates with diverse backgrounds and demographics.

To apply, please provide a cover letter, a CV, a one-page statement on teaching, a concise statement outlining your research program aimed at Colby mathematicians, official summary sheets from the evaluations of all of the courses taught over the past three years, and one recent publication or preprint you are most proud of. Your cover letter should address your commitment to the liberal arts and to promoting diversity in the discipline of mathematics, while your teaching statement should describe your concrete preparation strategies for teaching a calculus class. Candidates who are selected for the short list will be asked to provide a recording of a sample calculus presentation.

Please arrange for at least four letters of recommendation to be submitted directly by the recommenders, at least two of which should focus on your teaching and mentoring experience, and at least two – on your research activities.
