Position
Summary
Campus Security Officers provide security services for all
facilities and activities of the Peabody Institute.
Responsibilities include uniformed patrols and crime prevention
services to protect life and property; offering proactive support
of student and staff initiatives; developing and maintaining a
positive rapport with students, faculty, staff, visitors and
members of the surrounding neighborhoods; coordinating and
cooperating with various University administrators in the
preliminary investigation of complaints; reporting criminal
offenses and disruptions; enforcing University policies and
regulations; writing reports and keeping records; monitoring
electronic surveillance equipment and key access
control.
Assists with monitoring alarm systems and closed circuit equipment.
Responds to emergency medical situations and applies first aid
until emergency medics arrive on site. Works closely with the
Resident Advisors and student housing personnel.
NOTE: This position a non-sworn, unarmed position within the current security organization.
Essential Job Duties
On a daily basis, these Security Officers: Patrol assigned areas on foot. Actively participate in crime prevention and community policing activities. Respond to routine and emergency calls for various types of service. Conduct preliminary investigations, maintain confidentiality while writing clear, concise and accurate reports. Conduct security inspection of University facilities and areas, reporting conditions as may be necessary. Direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Provide escorts and other general services, including locking and unlocking buildings and rooms.
Perform other security related services for the faculty, staff, students and visitors of the University as may be necessary. Provide security for the University’s on and off campus property, facilities, and activities
Position Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Acceptable completion of basic security officer training and related training required.
- Overtime may be required
- Must be able to successfully complete a physical/health screening examination by the Office of Occupational Health and Safety, which includes a drug screening.
- Must be able to successfully meet and maintain Campus Safety and Security physical requirements
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to work in all kinds of weather

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
