The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) at the University of Florida invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position in the URP graduate program with a focus on housing, community development, and equity, race and social justice. Experience in cross-cultural studies, mixed methods research, and GIS as applied to advancing knowledge in these areas is desirable.
The expectation will be to teach four courses per year in the candidate’s areas of expertise and as needed by the Department, including a housing policy and planning course; conduct research commensurate with a tenure-track position; and engage in outreach and service consistent with the mission of the program. Incumbents should be committed to working with diverse student and community populations, and have an interest in collaborating with researchers in the College’s centers, including the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies, the GeoPlan Center, and the Florida Institute for Built Environment Resilience.
The candidate must have a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning, landscape architecture, or a related field. A successful candidate should have experience with classroom instruction and teaching in an online learning environment, demonstrated potential to attract extramural research grants, particularly national grants, and a willingness to serve the profession and academy. The Department is interested in candidates who have shown a commitment to teaching, research, or service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. Planning experience and/or AICP are preferred. Salary for the position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The Department of URP consists of a collegial faculty of eleven core, full-time members, as well as faculty affiliated with College research centers and programs. The Department, founded in 1975 and first accredited in 1978, offers a master’s degree in URP (that is the first and only in the country to include an accredited fully-online option), a Ph.D. concentration (including STEM designation), a graduate minor, an undergraduate minor, and a combined undergraduate-master’s degree (4+1). Our faculty are among the most productive in the college consistently attracting the highest amount of research funding in the college with close to $3 million in grants secured in the past year. As one of two units in the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning, the Department of URP has a strong relationship with the Department of Landscape Architecture, as well as other units in the College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP). The College also offers degree programs in Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design, Historic Preservation, and Sustainability and the Built Environment.
