Mission or Goal of Unit

The mission of the VCU School of Business is to be a dynamic hub of business education and research, fueled by creativity and a commitment to preparing students to lead in a complex world.

The School of Business prepares students for successful careers and lifelong learning by providing management education firmly grounded in technology, interdisciplinary teamwork and global perspectives. This is fueled by experiential learning, problem-solving curriculums, impactful research, and a creative culture. In achieving this mission we excel in teaching and scholarly research and build effective, value-based relationships with the external community.

The Office of Undergraduate Studies helps students to transition successfully to the VCU School of Business. We foster students’ independent thinking about their educational experience to prepare them for graduation, successful careers, and global citizenship. We help students realize their academic potential by engaging them in programs and opportunities offered by VCU .

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

This position will focus on teaching undergraduates and developing their potential as business professionals.

Position Responsibilities

This position is for a non-tenure-tracked, term faculty member at the rank of Instructor with course coordination duties.
Teaching duties include undergraduate Foundations of Business courses:
BUSN 201 Foundations of Business
BUSN 205 Introduction to World of
Business

These experiential sophomore-level courses give students an overview of the business world while building professional and creative problem-solving skills. The Foundations of Business curriculum incorporates guest lectures by business leaders and an online business simulation.

Course Coordination duties include but are not limited to continuously assess and improve course content and delivery methods. Train and manage adjunct faculty to teach sections of Foundations of Business courses, as needed.

Additional teaching opportunities may be available as determined by School needs and the expertise of the incumbent. The incumbent will participate in curriculum assessment and development.

Required Qualifications

-Master’s Degree in Business or a relevant field.
-Significant business experience with a broad knowledge of business practices.
-Appreciation for the role of creativity in business.
-Experience teaching undergraduate business classes.
-Demonstrated teaching excellence.
-Experience using online and experiential instructional methods.
-Superior communication and leadership skills.
-A proven track record of inspiring, guiding, and mentoring others to reach their full potential.
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience teaching large courses with 100-200 students.
-Expertise and experience in International Business
