Position Summary
The Assistant Vice Provost and Director of Education Abroad at the University at Buffalo (UB) is responsible for providing leadership, strategic vision and administrative oversight for UB’s education abroad and international experiential programs.
As Assistant Vice Provost, you will lead a small team of education abroad advisors and assistants in managing all aspects of developing, administering, and ensuring the quality of the university’s education abroad portfolio. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with university colleagues and with external constituents, and representing UB Education Abroad both nationally and internationally. Your goals will include ensuring that University at Buffalo students are able to access a range of high quality education abroad programs, and are able to integrate an international experience into their university career.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications are:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three years’ experience in a leadership position in international education exchange, including experience in international program development.
- Substantial supervisory experience, including experience supervising professional and/or clerical staff.
- Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and make timely decisions
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated expertise with cross-cultural communication.
- A proven ability to collaborate successfully with diverse constituents; ability to build and foster relationships with stakeholders on campus and abroad.
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in study abroad and international education including a demonstrated understanding of applicable governmental regulations.
- Experience with health, safety, international risk mitigation and crisis management.
- Strong command of the electronic tools used to manage in Education Abroad, including MS Office, on-line application and program management systems, and a facility with use of current communication technologies.
- A demonstrated understanding of academic quality measures, as they apply to US higher education and a working knowledge of financial and budget models as they apply to Education Abroad.
- Experience living or studying abroad.
- Ability to work non-standard (evening and weekend hours) as needed to meet the position’s professional obligation.

Preferred Qualifications are:
- An advanced degree
- A degree in a field related to international education (i.e. counseling, student personnel, international education, or a related area)
- Experience with curricular development or review, or course development, or a similar function.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a language other than English
- Proficiency in using Terra Dotta Study Abroad
