Job Description:

The Assistant Director is an integral part of the Residential Programs & Services Office (RPS) and will be both responsible in part for housing operations and for the training of professional and student staff on programming and procedures. The Assistant Director will manage the daily operations of their own residence area and supervise residence directors of other residence areas. The ADRL needs to have previous experience with The Housing Director (THD) software for housing operations. The Assistant Director will also assist the Director of RPS with the coordination and implementation of Residence Life staff recruitment, development, and process housing operations planning for the academic and summer calendars. They will assess the development and implementation of reporting for RPS. They will develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with campus constituencies to ensure residential community support of the College's mission. The Assistant Director may serve as a hearing officer for the student conduct program. The Assistant Director will coordinate maintenance and assessment of the department-wide website, social media sites. They will serve as a senior leadership representative for Residence Programs & Services, including representing the department on campus-wide committees and at College events including but not limited to Admissions Open House and Orientation events.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Aids the Director of Residential Programs & Services in setting vision, goals, and outcomes for the department. In the absence of the Director, the ADRL is the Senior Housing Officer.
  • Hiring, training, supervising, and evaluation of 1-3 Residence Directors (RDs). General administrative responsibilities: manage, mentor, and coach residence directors with departmental processes and projects.
  • Daily management of the Flagg Townhouse residence area consisting of approximately 400 beds, including the supervision of RA Staff. Including but not limited to engagement, supervision, key inventory, opening and closing preparation and room changes.
  • Assist in overall management of The Housing Director (THD), a product of Adirondack software; provide training of RPS personnel on the use of THD. Maintain inventories of all residence hall equipment and furnishings in THD.
  • Oversight of student staff leadership: chair the selection processes, coordinate and develop training for student staff including RA Selection and Residence Area Security Monitors (desk assistants) and provide on-going leadership opportunities, service, and leadership development.
  • Participate in departmental assessment initiatives.
  • Contribute to experiential learning initiatives. Is visible and available in the residence areas outside of office hours; visits the residence areas to assist with safety, maintenance, and to promote community building. Actively engages in creating strong partnerships within the department and throughout campus to enhance the overall residential experience for students.
  • Serve as a Conduct Officer for alleged violations of College policy as assigned by the Dean of Students. Follow through with all aspects of the conduct review process for each case assigned.
  • Assist with routine safety procedures including fire drills, health and safety checks, and natural disaster preparedness.
  • Serve on the on-call rotation for emergency assistance and crisis intervention, maintain the monthly on call schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Disability Resource Office on housing accommodation requests including emotional support animals.
  • Direct contact and liaison for Conferencing and Events Services.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned. Job description is subject to change due to any organizational needs of the division.



Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in Residence Life & Housing, including supervision of staff.
  • Experience in using The Housing Director software by Adirondack Solutions. Mastery of THD functions is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships with other campus departments involved in creating a safe and engaging residential environment.
  • Commitment to diversity and social justice; experience in establishing an inclusive residential environment for all residents.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage a variety of projects and responsibilities working both independently and collaboratively as necessary.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, live-on position in the APA bargaining unit. Salary is $50,000.
