The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, in conjunction with the Seton Healthcare Family, is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as Associate Program Director of the Adult Residency Program in the Department of Psychiatry. The Associate Program Director, under the direction of the Program Director, will play an integral role in helping the Department build a nationally-recognized training model for innovative, valued-based mental health care delivery and illness prevention with an emphasis on vulnerable persons and those suffering health disparities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overseeing the development of academic career training paths (scholarly, research or clinical-educator) with the adult psychiatry residency training program.
  • Working closely with the Program Director, Educational Council, Associate Chair for Education to develop original programming for all learning experiences including, but not limited to, curriculum, rotations, supervision and mentoring for the residency program.
  • Preparing for and participating in both internal and external evaluation reviews of the residency program and responding to any concerns or deficiencies that arise.
  • Completing semi-annual reviews of residents, as directed by the Program Director, including review of resident evaluations and overall progress in training.
  • Designing and regularly reporting metrics related to the performance of educational training programs for the purposes of ongoing tracking and performance improvement
  • Participating in resident recruitment efforts and working with the program director, coordinator and chief residents to plan and implement educational and program events throughout the academic year.

These duties are not expected to be full-time, so the candidate will also support 50% of him/herself through clinical or extramurally funded research with the clinical effort at either consult/liaison services, ED or outpatient clinic.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school with board certification in Psychiatry.
  • Substantial record of leadership and achievement in academic medicine
  • Significant experience with educational and training programs in Psychiatry
  • Eligible for appointment as Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.
  • Eligible for credentialing and privileging by the Seton Healthcare Family
  • Will possess valid Texas Medical License and state and/or federal license for administration of narcotics.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with value-based care delivery and integrated practice models
  • Knowledge of educational psychology and application of adult learning theory in the development of curricula and instructional design
