Established in 2000, the Department (http://www.LN.edu.hk/cultural/) offers a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Cultural Studies with a strong interdisciplinary orientation. BACS graduates are offered Concentrations in Digital Cultures and Media Practice, or in Creativity and Performance Cultures. It also admits postgraduate research students leading to the award of MPhil and PhD degrees. Since 2003, it has been offering a self-financed taught programme leading to the Master degree of Cultural Studies.
General Requirements
Candidates should have a PhD degree, and demonstrated
trans-disciplinary/interdisciplinary scholarship in one or more of
the following areas: cultural theory; culture and the disciplines;
migration, mobility, and labour; urban cultures and consumption in
Asia; gender/sexuality studies; performance studies; digital
culture studies. A strong interest in any of the following will be
an advantage: inter-Asia cultural studies, Hong Kong Studies, China
Studies. We expect candidates to demonstrate the “knowledge
transfer” potential of their research in terms of social and
cultural engagement.
Senior-level candidates should have experience in academic administration, a distinguished record of research and publications, and an international reputation in their relevant fields. The successful candidate is expected to provide strong academic leadership in curriculum development, teaching and research.
For candidates at Assistant Professor level, preference will be
given to those who can show early evidence of international quality
research and publications.
Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and
remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and
dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming
passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
Appointments will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointments with possibility of consideration for substantiation.
