About the Program:
CSUN’s marriage and family therapy master’s degree program prepares students to serve the diverse populations of Southern California and is accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). The MFT faculty is a dynamic and dedicated group of professionals who work collaboratively to offer a cutting-edge program that prepares students to work in community mental health with an emphasis on social justice values. The program has two community clinics, Strength United and the Mitchell Family Counseling Center. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, research, and service to the community.
- Earned doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy or related field from an accredited university.
- Commitment to social justice evidence in scholarship, teaching practices, and/or clinical training.
- Clinical experience working with a diverse range of clients, including children, families, and couples.
- Demonstrated professional experience working with community mental health systems that serve diverse communities.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor students from diverse populations.
- Potential to make significant scholarly and professional contributions in area of specialty.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and between the specialty program and the department, university, and local community.
- LMFT or clinical license eligible in California within two years of hire.
- Eligibility for AAMFT Approved Supervisor status within two years of hire. As a COAMFTE accredited program, maintaining AAMFT Approved Supervisor status is required for all core faculty.
- Proven excellence in teaching at the university level.
- Clinical and applied skills sufficient to teach practicum courses and conduct live supervision with trainees in marriage and family therapy.
- Experience with oversight of training clinic, clinical program, or similar administrative experience.
- Research, publications, or equivalent professional contributions in area(s) of specialty.
- Experience and/or training in external grant writing.
- Experience in COAMFTE-accredited program preferred.
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment and ability to teach, mentor and work with a diverse student population.
At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to work in the United States.
All positions are contingent upon Provost’s approval and budget considerations.
- Teach core and specialty courses in marriage and family therapy, which includes chairing thesis/project/comprehensive examination committees.
- Participate in program development, coordination, and evaluation, including accreditation maintenance and data collection.
- Recruit, advise, and mentor diverse students.
- Train therapists who can effectively work with diverse populations and collaborate with other professionals.
- Pursue funding for, conduct and publish research in area(s) of specialty.
- Serve on department, college, and university committees and work collaborative with colleagues.
- Remain current in field(s) of specialty through on-going professional development.
The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she is housed for recommending tenure and promotion.
