The Institute of Fine Arts of New York University invites applications for a Full Professorship in the area of African-American and Black Diasporic Arts. Applicants are expected to have a distinguished record of research and teaching, with a minimum of ten years’ experience. We welcome applications representing diverse fields within modern and contemporary art. We are especially interested in candidates whose work engages with such areas as gender and sexuality studies, post-colonial studies, the Black Atlantic and other related topics. We encourage applications from individuals interested in a diverse range of media (including new media) within modern and contemporary Black Diasporic visual arts.

The Institute of Fine Arts at NYU offers MA and PhD degrees in the History of Art and an MS in the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. The course load for the position is two courses per semester including occasional undergraduate teaching. Mentoring students on the MA and PhD levels is an important component of the professorship.

Applicants should submit a cover letter (including discussion of the candidate’s research and teaching interests), CV, and a statement about the applicant’s experience mentoring students.
