The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure‐track Assistant Professor position in Ethnic Studies/Chicanx/a/o Studies with appointment to begin Fall 2021.

California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) is a Hispanic-serving institution, with the largest student body in the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system, with a total enrollment of over 40,000 students. The CSU is currently engaged in a directed multi-year initiative to improve graduation rates for all students with a particular focus on first-generation college students, low-socioeconomic students, Latinx, African American and Native American students. Position

The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will include the development, teaching of introductory and core courses in the discipline, and the development of courses in their area of specialization. Specific courses this person will teach include, but are not limited to, Introduction to Chicanx/a/o Studies, Introduction to Ethnic Studies, Research and Writing in Ethnic Studies, and Ethnic Studies Senior Seminar. This person will also be responsible for producing scholarship and/or creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.

Directly supporting CSUF's mission to educate our diverse and dynamic student body, the majority of whom are students of color and the first in their family to earn a college degree, this search is part of a cohort hire of five tenure-track faculty members across the departments of African American Studies, Chicana/Chicano Studies, Asian American Studies, Theatre and Dance, and Mathematics whose teaching and research supports campus progress towards an anti-racist, inclusive and socially-just future. We anticipate that several additional faculty hired in the 20-21 academic year will choose to join this cohort. Academic Affairs and Human Resources, Diversity, and Inclusion will support these new faculty with mentorship designed to sustain and advance their teaching and scholarly or creative activity success and to create a secondary community to complement that of their home department.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o Studies, or a related field. ABD's may apply, but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date
  
• Disciplinary knowledge and expertise in Chicana/o Studies
  
• Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college or university level
  
• A strong record or potential of scholarly/creative accomplishments
  
• Experience in working collaboratively with diverse colleagues and community
  
• Demonstrated contributions to equity through scholarship/creative activity, teaching, and service
  
• Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching of diverse student populations, including first‐generation college students, low-income students, and racialized students of color
  
  Preferred Qualifications
  
• Demonstrated experience and interest in topics related to interdisciplinary and/or comparative approaches with Chicana/o expertise and preferably one of the following: Central Americans, or Caribbean populations, African Diaspora, Indigenous Studies, etc.
  
• Specializations in two or more of the following:

• Gender, Sexuality, and/or Feminist Studies
  
• Trans of Color Studies
  
• Popular Culture and Aesthetics Studies

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases.
