The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time clinical faculty position at the rank of Instructor in the area of optometry. Salary and final rank will be commensurate with credentials and experience. The School of Medicine has an active compensation plan which includes incentives and bonuses.
The University of Maryland School of Medicine established the first department for diseases of the eye in the United States in 1873. Since then, the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has played an integral part in the school’s curriculum. This dedication to better sight for all has led to many research and surgical innovations, including the creation of the modern-day ophthalmoscope and the first surgery to correct strabismus.
The qualified applicant should have a strong commitment to teaching and an interest in medical based optometry as well as primary care and contact lens fittings. Requirements include completion of an approved optometric training program. Board certification or eligibility, and eligibility for licensure in Maryland are also required.
