Upper School Long Term Substitute - Computer Science Department: Upper School Location: Washington, DC
Position Start Date: April 2021
Status: Temporary Part Time


Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD, seeks a Long Term Substitute Computer Science Teacher in the Upper School division starting in mid-April until late May. The position will teach 3 sections (60% FTE) on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Computer Science Teacher will be responsible for teaching Intermediate Computer Science classes (Object-Oriented principles in Java/Processing). The successful candidate will possess deep knowledge of computer science, be proficient in Java, and have a passion for teaching.

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, information technology, or an equivalent technical discipline is required. Experience teaching at the secondary level is highly desirable.

The most desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms for remote instruction as well as proven effectiveness as a classroom teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting. Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this position requires teaching in person.
