POSITION : Twelve-month tenure track administration, teaching and research position at the Assistant/Associate level to begin August 16th, 2021. Salary commensurate with qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES : The selected candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of both the Graduate Certificate and MS Degree Programs in Brewing Science and Operations. They will be responsible for marketing of the program, growing and maintaining enrollment, industry relations and networking and the annual assessment of the program. The selected candidate will also have oversight of the on-campus brewing science laboratory and diagnostic laboratory. Responsibilities will include scheduling of student teaching visits, faculty research visits, maintaining adequate inventory levels to complete the work of all programs and to operate within a set budget for all operational needs. This person will also be responsible for instruction across a number of courses. The successful candidate will provide leadership for current and new course development. Graduate committee service is expected. The selected candidate is expected to engage in collaborative research and instruction with colleagues in the program and throughout the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Hospitality Management. Development of professional and scholarly activities is expected. Involvement in university and community service and the development of industry partnerships is also expected.

SETTING : This interdisciplinary department is affiliated with the College of Human Sciences. The department offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree programs in hospitality management that include campus-based programming as well as a master’s degree distance education option. The Hospitality Management Program’s undergraduate enrollment is approximately 250 students. Program faculty are intent upon doubling this number over the next 5-7 years across all three-study options including Hotel and Restaurant Management, Event Management and Culinary Science. All programming will be delivered in the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, which will be completed in summer of 2022. This 142,000 square-foot education center will house six floors of state of the art hospitality teaching classrooms and hands-on learning laboratories. The center will house a number of food production laboratories, a commercial food production kitchen, student training restaurant (1856 Restaurant), a bakery and coffee roasting facility, microbrewery, wine and distilled spirits education laboratories, spa, roof top garden and event center, and an ultra-luxury training hotel (The Laurel). The center will also feature a very interactive food hall encompassing two business incubation units. Minimum Qualifications

Earned, by the time employment begins, doctoral degree from an accredited institution in microbiology, biochemistry, food science, fermentation science, agriculture and/or chemical engineering that touches on elements of the brewing process. Demonstrated knowledge in the area of brewing science as well as strong communication, writing, and research skills; evidence of effective teaching; and an ability to secure external funding through research or industry service provision. Must be prepared to develop and teach curriculum across both the Graduate Certificate and MS programs encompassing such courses as brewing science, materials, malting, fermentation, microbiology, operations and/or engineering. Commercial brewing experience will be considered an asset. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.
