Job Summary
The individual selected for this position will provide professional level research assistance in the department of Animal Sciences.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
*Conducts bench top and field research and data collection as needed.
*Supervises and coordinates scheduling of graduate students, undergraduate students and visiting scholars in the collection of data and instruction in laboratory techniques and general laboratory procedures. Also, ensures that all personnel working in the laboratories are up to date on mandatory safety training.
*Maintains laboratory equipment, coordinates department wide calibrations of pipettes and electronic balances, and ensures that supplies are inventoried, ordered, and available to conduct research
for 12 separate laboratories belonging to 4 separate principal investigators.
*Researches, locates, and purchases equipment necessary for research and principal investigators; troubleshoots problems and repairs equipment, accruing cost savings to the department.
*Maintains and performs checks on various departmental walk-in coolers and freezers, as well as the departmental room with ultracold freezers and refrigerators; Coordinates with Facilities personnel and outside vendors to maintain the ultracold freezers and air conditioning units necessary to keep air temperatures within equipment operating temperatures.
*Serves as safety coordinator of the 12 laboratories to ensure compliance with AU Risk Management and Safety guidelines, including disposing of all old or used chemicals, updating inventories of incoming chemicals and coordinating with AU Facilities to keep the labs safe and functional.
*Maintains accounts and budgets for travel, lab supplies, and equipment; performs cost analyses; and ensures that funds are expended so that research can be conducted in a timely and compliant manner.
*Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Research Associate II: Master’s degree in Animal Sciences, Biology, or closely related field and 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Salary Range: $35,000 – $58,400
Research Associate III : Master’s degree in Animal Sciences, Biology, or closely related field and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Salary Range: $39,300 – $65,500
Research Associate IV: Master’s degree in Animal Sciences, Biology, or closely related field and 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Salary Range: $45,100 – $75,100
Education Level
Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.
